“We can’t stop here! This is bat country.”– Raoul Duke, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Friday nights were Godzilla movie night. It’s no surprise that Godzilla leaves a pretty big empty spot in his wake. How can you not love that adorably huge lizard? The British Hubby and I were unsure what direction our Friday night movie experience should go once we watched over 30 Godzilla movies. Sure, it’s just 257 days and 9 hours until Godzilla vs. King Kong is out, but there simply aren’t that many King Kong movies. We’ve decided to wait until 2020 to start watching those.
Friday night is now affectionately Brain Out Movie Night. It will primarily be B movies and cult classics, but will extend to all other genres and cultures provided the movie is fun, silly and/or completely unlikely to happen in real life. There might be some action adventure or animated or horror films added in. Don’t get me wrong I love a good thought provoking suspense, thriller or murder mystery movie, but Friday nights will be about the entertainment value. You know the type I mean. Something I can sit back with my Friday night celebratory drink, my knitting, snuggle with the British Hubby and our kitties and enjoy after a long stressful work week.
In our hunt for B movies, I stumbled upon this article, The 100 Best B Movies of All Time. The 100th title was our Friday night movie pick, The Giant Claw. This movie didn’t fail to deliver. It starts out with a narrator talking about how man with science and technology is running the earth. Less than five minutes in, there’s the first UFO sighting. Is it a giant battleship flying in the sky? Oh no, it’s a giant bird.
This movie has UFO’s, legends, death, destruction, anti-matter and a giant mama bird protecting her young. It’s great in the way that B movies are so bad they’re good. Okay, maybe it wasn’t that good, but it was entertaining.
I’ve been making slow, but steady progress on 1500 yards of adventure knitting. If I could go back in time, I would have cast on more stitches so this would be wider instead of longer. It would make a lovely lap blanket, but I’m not sure how I’m going to wear a wrap that’s going to end up longer than I am tall. Perhaps, I need to gift it to a really tall person that also likes purple?
Our Friday night celebration involved another new cider. Ciders have come a long way in the flavor choices. This was a little sweet for my taste, but not too sweet that I won’t finish the 4 pack.
If you have any brain out, B movie or cult classic suggestions, post them in the comments section. I’ld love to hear about your favorite B movie or cult classic.
