2017 Resolutions

Practice your retirement daily.

On January 1, many people make New Year’s resolutions. This tradition has been going on for centuries. A tradition that can be traced back 4,000 years to ancient Babylonians according to History.com. Resolutions used to be a promise made to the gods along with a reaffirmation of loyalty to the king. A few years ago, the British Hubby and I decided to make resolutions that were achievable and had a positive impact on our lives. Many of these concepts have stuck with us over the years. For instance, one year we vowed to celebrate life. I opened a bottle of champagne (insert your own fun beverage here) every Friday night to honor that week’s accomplishments. We also started toasting the week on Sunday nights. This tradition we still do. One year, was the year of no faffing. Another year, we vowed to eat better food. My cooking and baking has improved dramatically because of that year. Have you decided on a resolution for 2017? If your looking for inspiration, here’s a few unusual ideas.

It snowed over night. Snow on January 1 always seems a bit magical.

Some years, I also do knitting/crafting goals. While I would like to see my knitting expand to include more garments, I’m going to keep on trucking with my goal to finish eight projects every month. Eventually, I would like to see my wips down to a more reasonable number (maybe even single digits)! Capitalizing on my momentum, I used today to finish my first project of 2017. Below is my Snoqualmie Hat using local yarn. The pattern is the Boxley Hat. This hat was an interesting knit that kept my interest the entire time.

I also decided to frog a sock that wasn’t very far along. That makes liberated Orphans one and two for January.

Update on other wips:

  • Frank in Pairs: I’m passed the half way point! Woot Woot! Pairs is now the dominate color.
  • Dewberry Dancer: 62 rows completed in section two. Check out the photo below. Isn’t this going to be stunning?
  • Project Peace: 17 of 80 rows completed.

Gracie tried wearing a Christmas Crown for New Year’s Eve, but the excitement was too much!

I predict 2017 will produce a record number of finished projects!
