Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace. ~ Dalai Lama
December 1 marks the start of reusable advent calendars. The first known advent calendar dates back to the year 1851. You can read more about the history here. Now you can find commercial advent calendars filled with almost anything. Chocolate being one of the most popular. We’re partial to tea and yarn calendars here. This year we decided to refrain from the chocolate variety to help us stick to our low-carb goals. (That was a hard decision, and one that was not made lightly.)
If you’ve been following the blog for a bit, the start of Craftvent is no surprise. This is my third year for this yarny adventure. My grandma always said bad things come in threes. I’ve decided that good things also should come in threes. Apparently, I accidentally ordered multiple yarn advent calendars. Okay, maybe I forgot what I ordered. Not only did I do that with the yarn calendars, but I also did it with the tea calendars. This year I have three yarn calendars and three tea calendars. On the plus side, I’m going to have surprises well into 2021. Or maybe this is just what I need to stay safe and have yuletide fun in 2020?
Yarny fun is from Apple Yarns and Jimmy Beans. I didn’t dig too much in the Apple yarn box, but it appears this is a self-care package for crafters. What a fantastic idea! I can have copious amounts of tea, while knitting and still support area businesses.

- Day 1: Needles and pattern code, msm hand cream and tender loving care herbal tea “Tea-LC” from Plum Deluxe
SkeinHerder’s Songs: Today I’m mostly listening to the LFC match. It’s game day for Liverpool fans! Go Reds!

The start of craftvent also means holiday gear for the kitties. I’m starting Ernie off slowly with just a tie for today. Doesn’t he look handsome!
I always forget to order yarn-vent calendars when they go on sale and then I regret not having yarny advent things. Sigh, maybe next year!

I understand that. You might be able to find some that are pattern based where you don’t get the yarn, but part of the pattern every day. If you’re into stuffed items you could check out ADVENTure Gnome on Ravelry.

Yes I have done that in the past! Anna Dalvi does one every year, I did the 2016 one and it’s one of my favorite shawls!

I haven’t seen that one. I’ll have to check it out. Not that I need more projects, but it’s fun to see what others do.
